Appeals by Leave: What Child Welfare Attorneys Need to Know

This program will focus on the orders in a child protection case that are appealable by application for leave to appeal, and also the procedures for preparing and filing such an appeal. Professor Vivek Sankaran will provide guidance for practitioners to help them identify factors that render a case appropriate for appeal. The program will also feature actual examples of successful applications for leave to appeal. The discussion will highlight the practical and procedural implications on trial court proceedings of filing an application. The audience will be encouraged to submit questions. The target audience for this presentation includes lawyer-guardians ad litem, parents’ attorneys, and prosecutors.
