DESCRIPTION:A Family’s Experience: A Multidisciplinary Dialogue to Improve Outcomes in Intimate Partner Violence and Child Abuse and Neglect Cases \nFor the family experiencing intimate partner violence (IPV)\, the engagement of multiple\, complex\, and often uncoordinated systems can be overwhelming. This dialogue among national experts on domestic violence\, child welfare\, mental health and trauma\, and fatherhood focuses on the intersection between domestic violence and child maltreatment. Participants will review and respond to a real-life case example. Panelists will subsequently describe innovative policies and programs at the nexus of child welfare and domestic violence\, emphasizing practices that support safety\, minimize risk\, and promote resilience. DESCRIPTION:Appeals by Leave: What Child Welfare Attorneys Need to Know\nVivek Sankaran\, Director\, Detroit Center for Family Advocacy\, and Assistant Clinical Professor of Law\, University of Michigan Law School \nREGISTER FOR WEBCAST \nTuesday\, Feb 21 at 12:00 PM EST \nThis program will focus on the orders in a child protection case that are appealable by application for leave to appeal\, and also the procedures for preparing and filing such an appeal. Professor Vivek Sankaran will provide guidance for practitioners to help them identify factors that render a case appropriate for appeal. The program will also feature actual examples of successful applications for leave to appeal. The discussion will highlight the practical and procedural implications on trial court proceedings of filing an application. The audience will be encouraged to submit questions. The target audience for this presentation includes lawyer-guardians ad litem\, parents’ attorneys\, and prosecutors.
