SUMMARY:International Course on Child Abuse Paediatrics
DESCRIPTION:The planning committee is delighted to offer the Second International Course on Child Abuse Paediatrics\, Inter-CAP\, in Amsterdam\, 12-15 June 2017. \nThe new curriculum for 2017 has been revised based on evaluations provided by delegates and faculty of the first Inter-CAP conducted in Uppsala\, Sweden in 2015. The four-day course will include a number of “hot topics” and advanced topics that will be of interest to delegates from Inter-CAP 2015. \nInter-CAP is designed for all health professionals who provide health care to children. A significant amount of content regarding many forms of child maltreatment and neglect is presented at the course. \nAll aspects of the clinical assessment and evaluation of physical\, sexual\, or emotional abuse\, and neglect\, will be covered. The teaching will be delivered by international leaders in the field\, and will include didactic talks\, workshops and small group discussions. \nThe four-day is designed to allow for discussion and collaboration on some of the most challenging issues faced by child abuse paediatricians and their medical colleagues\, and there are plenty opportunities for networking along the continuum of experiences. \nThe course is endorsed by the Ray E. Helfer Society\, and will cover all of the core competencies expected of health professionals in this field.

SUMMARY:7th Annual CAC/MDT Professional Development Conference
DESCRIPTION:Many Cases\, Many Voices\, One Team\nAt its core\, the Children’s Advocacy Center model is about teamwork – bringing the agency professionals involved in a case together on the front end – and about putting the needs of the child victim first. Despite that notion\, as a part of a CAC or MDT\, it can sometimes feel like we all have different goals\, beliefs\, and desired outcomes. It can sometimes feel like we are in this alone. \nAs a part of a CAC or MDT\, we are a part of something bigger. We are a part of a team – the very thing that makes this whole model work. We are a part of a nationwide network of almost 800 CACs across the country. We are a part of a movement serving over 300\,000 children every year. The feeling of being connected to something bigger than ourselves can be powerful for resiliency. And while we are uniquely positioned to make a positive impact on the communities we serve\, we often ignore the negative impact our work can have on us. \nWe hope you will join us in Traverse City this April and\, as you are surrounded by hundreds of your colleagues\, we hope it will remind you that you are a part of something bigger than yourself. We hope it will remind you that we are one team.

SUMMARY:The 31st Annual San Diego International Conference on Child and Family Maltreatment
DESCRIPTION:This workshop is designed to help multidisciplinary professionals understand the complex issues of human trafficking.  We will begin with an overview of domestic minor sex trafficking\, as well as international sex and labor trafficking\, using case examples.  The workshop will examine how early adversity can lead to vulnerabilities that render youth at risk for exploitation.  We will discuss the need for a trauma-informed approach to survivor care\, and delve into what such an approach entails.  With a focus on sex trafficking\, we will discuss the varied needs of survivors\, appropriate next steps to take when concerns are identified\, and promising practices that have been developed and implemented\, seeking input from participants.  Participants will discuss the use of multidisciplinary teams for the prevention\, identification\, and treatment of human trafficking\, and the investigation and prosecution of offenders.

SUMMARY:5th Biennial Conference on Abusive Head Trauma: Medical\, Forensic and Scientific Advances and Prevention
DESCRIPTION:Abusive head injuries remain a significant medical and social problem in society. Significant progress has been made in our understanding of the presentation\, radiographic features\, pathology\, and biomechanics of these injuries over the past four decades. Despite this progress\, a number of controversies remain\, and much more research is needed. A broad range of disciplines\, including clinicians\, engineers\, and forensic and basic scientists\, are working to advance knowledge in this field. Unfortunately\, these disciplines often work in isolation\, each bringing their own points of view\, research methodology\, and even technical language to the problem. Interdisciplinary collaboration is infrequent\, and research is often fragmented and uncoordinated. \nDOWNLOAD BROCHURE
