The 31st Annual San Diego International Conference on Child and Family Maltreatment
January 31, 2017 - February 3, 2017
$165This workshop is designed to help multidisciplinary professionals understand the complex issues of human trafficking. We will begin with an overview of domestic minor sex trafficking, as well as international sex and labor trafficking, using case examples. The workshop will examine how early adversity can lead to vulnerabilities that render youth at risk for exploitation. We will discuss the need for a trauma-informed approach to survivor care, and delve into what such an approach entails. With a focus on sex trafficking, we will discuss the varied needs of survivors, appropriate next steps to take when concerns are identified, and promising practices that have been developed and implemented, seeking input from participants. Participants will discuss the use of multidisciplinary teams for the prevention, identification, and treatment of human trafficking, and the investigation and prosecution of offenders.
