Building Early Childhood Child Welfare Linkages to Support the Developmental Needs of Children in In-Home Care.
There is growing attention to the importance of early childhood child welfare partnerships as a means of supporting the unique developmental needs of young children who have experienced child abuse and neglect. This webinar will share experience from two states who have been very successful in building these collaborations, Illinois and Connecticut, and focus in on a sub-population that is often left out of these conversation–in-home/intact families. The basis for the webinar is a 2011 memo from ACF Commissioner Brian Samuels and Joan Lombardi, Assistant Deputy Secretary for Early Childhood Development.
This webinar will inspire and encourage teams working on excellence for in-home services and policies to build strong and durable bridges among the early childhood education, child development, and child welfare communities of practice and will present some of the challenges, benefits, and successes of these collaborations.
Anticipated Results
- Understanding the important roles that quality early care and education (ECE) programs play (including Head Start as a key ingredient) as partners with child welfare agencies and supporters of families with young children.
- New ideas for implementing partnerships across ECE, child development, and child welfare programs.
This webinar is brought to you by the NRC IN Home Services and the Center for the Study of Social Policy with presentations by Connecticut and Illinois. We hope to have several follow-up webinars to continue this dialog.
