Research and expert analysis suggest that as many as 25% of parents involved with child protective services systems and almost half of older foster youth may be living with cognitive challenges.  Service and legal staff experience many difficulties working with these families and seek information about available curricula and programming. This two-part webinar series is designed to provide the critical information and program innovations with potential to more effectively serve these parents and their children.

• Describe curriculum content needed by professionals serving child welfare caseloads and available curricula which have proven useful to child welfare staff.
• Describe how child welfare agencies and multidisciplinary inter-agency groups have designed and funded comprehensive training strategies focusing on understanding and serving parents with intellectual disabilities and their children.
• Provide examples of model programs and supports designed specifically to serve families with intellectual challenges who also are involved with child welfare agencies.
• Present how specialized support groups for parents with cognitive challenges may be developed, adapted, and maintained.
